Review a captured receipt

In short

When receipt capture is available, capture or enter a receipt and review it before confirming an expense.

Before you start

Receipt capture depends on your household’s enabled feature audience and permissions. If Capture receipt is absent, log an expense manually. A captured image or extracted suggestion is not proof that the expense was added.

Capture and review

  1. On Spending, use the Add control and choose Capture receipt when offered.
  2. Choose Take photo, Choose photo or Type it in instead, then provide the receipt.
  3. Find it under Receipts on Spending. Filter Uploads, Email imports or Needs review as needed. Choose Review for a record needing attention, or View to inspect a recorded receipt.
  4. Check the merchant, total, date, currency and category, and add notes if you like. Use Save changes to keep a correction without adding anything yet.
  5. If the popup asks whether this is an expense you already recorded, pick that expense to link the receipt to it, or choose No, add it as a new expense. Then select Link to expense or Add expense.
  6. If the receipt is a bill payment, select It's a bill payment and record the payment in Bills instead. Use Discard receipt to delete a receipt you do not need; expenses already created from it are untouched.
  7. Check the resulting record in Spending. Use Undo when offered if you added or linked the wrong thing. An undone receipt is skipped until you open it and choose Confirm as new.

Bank alerts and automatic additions

Forwarded bank alerts share this list with uploaded photos and manual receipts. For eligible merchant/card alerts, Auto-add future alerts is checked initially during review. Keep it checked only when you want matching future alerts, and matching waiting alerts, added without further review. Use Settings → Rules to stop merchant auto-add, and Undo separately for a mistaken Auto-added expense. Category and familiar-name choices do not themselves mean a purchase was approved.

If processing fails

Follow the receipt’s error or review state. You can record the purchase manually instead, but first check whether a matching expense already exists to avoid duplicates.
