Budgets & Goals

Monthly category limits and savings targets.

In short

Budgets: set $300 for groceries, see this month's usage in a progress bar. Goals: "Emergency fund $5k by Dec 31" with monthly auto-contribute on payday and round-up sweeps.

Setting a budget

  1. Budgets page → New budget.
  2. Pick a category and a monthly amount.
  3. The page now shows current-month spend against the cap with a colored bar.
Start with 2-3 categories, not 12. Overscoping budgets is the fastest way to abandon them.

Setting a goal

  1. Goals page → New goal.
  2. Name (Emergency fund), target amount, target date, currency.
  3. Optional: turn on monthly auto-contribute (fires on day X), or round-up sweep (rounds bill payments up to nearest $1/$5 and contributes the delta).

Why "Add funds" tags only — no decrement

HomeWeal doesn't track external accounts (we don't connect to your bank). "Add funds" on a goal is a tracking action — it records that you set aside money toward the goal. There's no source account to decrement.
