Splitting a bill

Per-bill splits — proportional, custom %, or even.

In short

Open the bill detail drawer → Splits tab. Pick a rule (even / custom / proportional). The settle-up tracker updates automatically when payments log.

Bill split: $1200 rent divided across three household membersRent · $1,200 / monthYou · 50%Alex · 30%Sam · 20%You owe Alex$0Sam owes you$240

Three split modes

  1. Even — total / number of members.
  2. Custom % — you set each member's share, must sum to 100%.
  3. Proportional — by income (set under Settings → Income for each member).

How settle-up math works

When a payment logs, the payer is credited the full amount. The split assigns "owed" amounts to each member. The settle-up tracker sums the net (paid - owed) per member across all bills and tells you who owes whom.

Splits are per-payment, not per-bill-definition. If you change the split rule, only future payments use the new rule. Past payments keep their original split.
